Maggie Cann

Maggie’s interest in movement and the body began as a young dancer. In college, she earned her B.A. degree from Winthrop University in both Dance and French and made the choice to pursue a career in arts and movement education. While teaching at Culver Academy, a boarding high school in northern Indiana, Maggie developed an interest in Pilates as a complement to the dance technique she was using to train male athletes. She immediately realized that Pilates benefits all bodies in that it creates new pathways of awareness and strength. Determined to learn more and buoyed by the support of her husband, Maggie moved to Pittsburgh in 2010 and completed Harmony’s Comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training Program in 2011. Always eager to learn more, Maggie more recently started her GYROTONIC practice and finds it to be profoundly transformative. In 2017, she received her Gyrotonic teaching certification and will pursue Gyrokinesis next.  Maggie continues to share her love of dance as an instructor and choreographer at the Jewish Community Center in Squirrel Hill.

Deirdre

PMA-CERTIFIED PILATES TEACHER

Deirdre has been a lifelong athlete enjoying such sports as long distance running, ice hockey and figure skating.  Her love of movement led her to a Pilates mat class in the early 90’s.  In 2011 Deirdre became ill with Carcinoid cancer and ultimately lost her left lung.  With a great desire to grow stronger and heal, she came to Harmony and began to rehabilitate.  The immobility in her left arm and chronic pain in her back and shoulders began to subside with a regular practice.  The Pilates breath work strengthened her remaining lung and she now breathes better than ever.  Deirdre completed Harmony’s Teacher Training Program in 2015 and was immediately invited to join the Harmony team.  She is a P.M.A. Certified Teacher, and is certified as a Cancer Exercise Specialist in Pilates. It is her greatest desire to help all bodies enjoy the benefits of a regular Pilates practice.
